Our club is involved in a variety of events and projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children and youth locally and worldwide. Below are the events and projects in which we are currently involved:
Local Events
Organize and run the Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade of Lights in December.
Run monthly senior bingos at two facilities.
Carryout street cleanups twice a year (Spring and Fall) in Manotick.
In partnership with Staples run a school supplies drive in August and September.
Hold the Kiwanis Pancake breakfast at Shiverfest (our local winter carnival) in February.
Help out with the local business associations’ (e.g. MVCA and B.I.A.) events in Manotick, such as ATaste of Manotick, Shiverfest and the Allan Haan Soapbox Derby.
Have provided and will continue to provide financial support for major community projects such as the Manotick Community Centre, Mahogany Harbour, Kempsville District Hospital and the Manotick and Barrhaven Food Cupboards.

Major Projects
Dickinson Days – Our SignatureProject, a community service project we organize, is held the first weekend in June, includes a parade, fireworks, craft fair, live entertainment, and more. This event celebrates Moss Kent Dickinson who was the founder of Manotick.
Kiwanis Music Festival (NCR) – This service project for our youth, which we help both financially and by providing volunteers, is held in various venues around Ottawa in April with the Highlights concert in May. Our club looks after the Musical Theatre component held at the City View United Church in Nepean.
Bingoland Gaming Centre – A big fundraiser for the club, teams of members work a day shift every Tuesday welcoming bingo players, handing out prizes and cleaning up.
Christmas Tree Sales – A large annual fundraiser for the club in December. Over 1,000 Fraser firs, Balsam firs and Scotch pine are sold in the Manotick Mews S.C. beside the Home hardware (see photo above).
Christmas Cake Sales – A fundraiser at Christmas time, to sell Christmas cakes, cookies, and chocolates at senior homes and elsewhere.
Youth Projects
Sponsor five Key Clubs at St Mark CHS, Barrhaven (Longfields-Davidson Heights) SS, St. Mother Teresa CHS, John McCrae SS and St. Xavier CHS in our area.
Co-sponsor and provide volunteers to host two Aktion Clubs: the Ottawa Aktion Club and the Bytown Aktion Club meetings.
Provide and present bursaries/scholarships to graduating high school students in our area.
Support and volunteer members for the NCR (Ottawa and area) Kiwanis Music Festival
Sponsor the 1st Manotick Scout group and the 2958Army Cadet Corpof Barrhaven.
Provide financial aid to children’s and youth’s organizations (e.g. YOMA, Christmas parties, sport teams, etc.)
Worldwide Projects
Kiwanis is a global organization which partners with other non-governmental groups such as UNICEF to help the Children of the World with various projects. Kiwanis has raised money globally in the battle against IDD – Iodine Deficiency Disorder, Eliminate – Maternal and Neo-Natal Tetanus (Lockjaw), and AIDS in the Caribbean. Kiwanis has also provided funds to support the relief efforts in in Haiti and other Caribbean countries after natural disasters such hurricanes and earthquakes, our club has contributed to all of these efforts.
